prempeh.org: What was the major setback to the smooth running of your duty?
Former Senior Prefect Gyabaah VY: There were many problems that posed as a challenge to me in my capacity as the main school prefect. Prominent amongst them was the unco-operative nature of my college students (form threes). Though I stood firm on so many occasions to ensure sanity, most of my colleague prefects were very soft.
prempeh.org: If you were to be in SSS2 and were given the opportunity to choose a position as a prefect, which of them would you choose and why?
Former Senior Prefect Gyabaah VY: I would definitely go in for the post of the main school prefect. I have learnt so many things about leadership that I hope each of us must have the opportunity of experiencing it once in a lifetime. Certain administrative protocols if learnt at our age would go a long way to sharpen our leadership skills. With this experience, I wouldn't have no other option.
INTERACTION WITH THE NEW PREFECTS
New Senior Prefect Konadu KK: The past prefects have performed to expectation. Their commitment and hard work is an example for us as newly installed prefects to emulate. Thought there were few instances of conditional services rendered by some of them. The likes of "if the senior prefects do not do this, I will not do that". Though we might encounter such situation I am hoping to enhance a deeper inter-prefect relationship to foster progress.
prempeh.org: What are your expectations as the new senior prefect?
New Senior Prefect Konadu KK: I am hoping that the coming year of my office would see the championing of the affairs of the students. This was a promise I made during my campaign. I am hoping that the official mouthpiece of the student body the S. R. C. would get a fair representation on any board and committee to voice out the concerns of the students.
There has been an instance where a prefect has been demoted. I am hoping that my administration would not see any of such scenarios. I am hoping that my colleague prefects would maintain their status as prefects till we hand over. This I would do by strengthening the prefect disciplinary committee.
prempeh.org: How do you assess the performance of the past prefects?
New Assistant Senior Prefect I Obeng SO: I must appreciate the hard work done by Snr. Gyabaa and his team. Though most of them did their very best for the school, few of them left so much to be desired. I am hoping that in our administration we would strengthen the prefect disciplinary board to enhance discipline.
prempeh.org: What are your expectations in the coming year?
New Assistant Senior Prefect II Obeng K: The first of all is to maintain the academic standard of the school and improve upon it. Anybody could be a winner but maintaining that status is what makes the difference. I am hoping that the introduction of the inter-departmental quizzes would go a long way to strengthen the quality of grades we get in the SSCE with respect to the core subjects.
Prep time is going to be monitored to ensure that students maximize the limited time they have.
We have agreed as prefects to ensure, in our time, a deeper teacher - student relationship. This is to allow student have
WHAT IS NEW IN PREMPEH PREFECTS: DAY PREFECTS
Editor's Notes: Prempeh College, is a school with students of both the day and bording statuses. It is a laudable idea that the affairs of the day students have been considered in this year's prefect's selection. The brain behind this is to ensure that the Day students who portray the true colours of the college out of campus are well monitored. Two prefects were chosen to take up that responsibility.
prempeh.org: Why did you accept the challenge to be a day prefect?
Day Prefect Owusu Ansah E: When you talk of the residential status of a student in Prempeh College, then you are considering both the day and bording students. It was quite unfortunate that the day students were not given a fair representation in any activity in the school. I vied the position of the school prefect though I was a day student. Even though I have been lobbying for the creation of the day prefect, little did I know that it was to be introduced this year. I accepted this position because I want to champion the cause of the day students in the field of academics, sports and all other co-curricular activities.
prempeh.org: What do you have for the people you are representing?
Day Prefect Owusu Ansah E: I am hoping that my colleague day students would be happier in the college though they spend few hours on campus. In the light of this my colleague prefect and I are planning to organize quizzes for the day students and organize a team for them to take part in the annual inter-halls championship. This I hope would add to what the administration is doing for the day students.
Assistant Day Prefect Krah PK: It is a prestige first to be a prefect of Prempeh College. Though it is prestigious, I find it as more of a responsibility and service. I am so excited that finally it has come to the schools administration to recognize the contribution of the day student in the school.
prempeh.org: How do you intend putting the activities of the day students into perspective?
Assistant Day Prefect Krah PK: Monitoring the movement of the day students on campus would be my major concern. It has come to our notice that some students get out of school before school closes. We intend patrolling the exits of the school, "Kosovo" and the school gates.
prempeh.org: Wouldn't these patrols affect your academic performance?
Assistant Day Prefect Krah PK: We would work directly with the security personnel on campus. They would check the identification cards of all students who do not have official permission to go out. Few students would be set as scape goats to serve as a deterrent to all who want to leave campus without permission. In the light of this we have planned to negotiate with the administration to change the ID cards of all students whose statuses are changed. This would help identify all the students properly.
