The outgoing prefects successfully handed over to their successors
last Sunday, 20th May 2007 at the Osae Assembly Hall. It was held during
the evening church service. The handing over should have ideally taken
place during the afternoon but this was not so because last Sunday was
also a visiting day.
Present was the Headmaster, Mr. Owusu Achiaw, all his Assistants: Mr.
A.A. Koduah, Mr. K.Y. Yeboah and Mr. S.Y. Dwamena; other members of
staff, some parents of the incoming prefects and a few old boys.
The outgoing prefects (Ainoo regime)
The Senior Prefect, Francis Ainoo, in his speech, which he delivered
flanked by his two assistants, outlined some of his achievements among
which were the organization of "Meet the Stars", the erection of a new
neon sign at the main gate, among others.
The new Senior Prefect, David Nimo, pledged to work hard. He paid
glowing tribute to his predecessors and congratulated them for the
legacy left behind.
The Headmaster, in his address, said it was an honour for him to be
the Headmaster of Prempeh College. He said that as the headmaster, he
could be called at any time to give an address and stressed the need
for the incoming prefect to learn how to effectively deliver speeches
since he could find himself addressing the President H.E. Snr. J.A.
Kufuor during this year's speech day. The Headmaster thanked the
outgone prefects for their hardwork and zeal.
He however chastised
them for their abysmal performance during the final lap of their
tenure of office. He said they were 'switching classes' and always
trooping to town in 'multi – co' (i.e. multi-coloured attire). This didn't go down well with the
students.
He advised the Form 2's not to follow suit in this
direction. He advised the new prefects to discharge their duties
without fear or favour. He pledged his support to them and asked them
not to wait for instructions from the teachers before they act.
He dropped the bombshell that Form 2's would start working next
academic year. This would enable station work to be finished on time
on weekdays so that all students could attend morning assembly.
Certificates and parcels were awarded to the outgone prefects. Some
of them, especially, the 1st Assistant Dining Hall Prefect, Prep
Prefect and Assistant Sports Prefect Biney received very loud cheers
from the students. The outgone Chaplaincy Prefect also received a
thunderous round of applause which was the students' own way of saying
'bravo' for the hardwork.
Both the old and new took pictures after the handing over.
There is now a craze for shots taken by the prempeh.org camera. Form
1's were struggling to have their pictures taken so they could also
appear on prempeh.org.
