2006/07 Senior Prefect
Francis Ainoo (middle) giving his acceptance speech at the recently held Handing Over ceremony
prempeh.org: What is your take on the cancellation of Denominational
meetings on Sundays?
Ainoo: The headmaster had initially wanted to scrap the whole idea of
denominational meetings and so the chaplain had to intervene. Denominational
meetings now take place only on Fridays after Prep and we have only SU
meetings on Sundays in addition to our normal two Sunday Church Services.
The cancellation would not have a very great impact on the discipline levels
in the school. This is because already, most of the students weren't going
for the meetings and those who went were the dedicated ones. This would help
the students to have ample time to study on Sundays. Weighing the advantages
and disadvantages, I think we can cope without the denominational meetings.
prempeh.org:
How is the discipline level in the college?
Ainoo:
The discipline level in the college has really gone up since the
begining of this term. The teachers are now more willing to help than was
the case last term. I must also say that the story that was published in the
Chronicle has actually pushed the headmaster and staff to ensure discipline
so that no student will have the opportunity to go out and disgrace the
whole school. The teachers and sometimes the headmaster now go round the
houses during morning assembly to ensure that everyone is present and that
no student is hiding in the classrooms. It is worthy to note that the
Headmaster himself punished students of G'berg who were absent from Saturday
rollcall on the 12th May.
prempeh.org:
Back to the Chronicle story, what action do you think should be taken?
Ainoo:
Firstly, I think that the paper should have been sued. The story was
really meant to dent the image of the college. My concern is that all of us
students should behave so that no reporter will have cause to defame us. If
even one student is caught in an immoral act, it will be generalized for all
Prempeh guys.
prempeh.org:
Should something be done to educate the students internally about such
issues?
Ainoo:
A religious approach should be taken towards such issues. Most of the
students behave out of fear of the teachers and not from a real desire to do
what is right. Programmes should be organised at which religious leaders
should be invited to come and preach to the students about such issues.
prempeh.org:
How do evaluate the headmaster's performance since your assumption of
office?
Ainoo:
I might not find words to describe his performance but I can say that he
is incredible. He sometimes goes to the classrooms himself to check rolls
and ensure that everything is right.
prempeh.org:
Do you have any special programme for the term?
Ainoo:
We will have a Student's Forum on the 16th June at the Osae Assembly
Hall. This is being put up by the SRC.
prempeh.org:
Talking about the SRC, how have you been doing?
Ainoo:
The SRC is doing fine and we've had some General Council as well as
executive meetings. The executives met with the headmaster on the 20th May
to introduce ourselves and discuss certain pertinent issues.
prempeh.org:
What is happening with the School's Internet Cafe?
Ainoo:
I hear the college has pulled out our deal with Africaonline Ltd.
because it was found not to be beneficial to the college. The
authorities are now negotiating with the Ghana Telecom for them to provide
us with Internet Service.
prempeh.org:
What do you say to all Amanfoo?
Ainoo:
The school is for them since they are the major stakeholders so they
should all come and help in their small way possible. We want Amanfoo to help
the science and maths quiz team as well as the footballers who compete in
Accra and Koforidua respectively next month.
prempeh.org:
Thank you senior. We shall talk later on more about yourself and policies.
