Prefectorial Proceedings

Prefectorial elections preview

Thursday, March 9, 2006

It is again time for the old order to make way for the new. The Ampong-led administration has done their part for Mother Prempeh. The prefectorial body of 2005/06 can boast of an achievement in sport even if people may think that they have done nothing.

The Senior Prefect for 2005/06 is Ampong Stephen Osei (left) and Assistant Senior Prefect I is Demitiah William K. Owusu (middle), and the Assistant Senior Prefect II is Asamoah Adu Y. Agyekum (right). What is their legacy?
Moreover, these batch of prefects really moved the school. A revolution that was seen in the days of the Seth Miah administration in 2002 was revisited. In their tenure of office, the masters moved beyond their limits to ensure discipline and decorum and also gave a lot of respect to the occupant of the Prempeh stool - the sign of power for the college.

Many are the things that happened in their reign as prefects. Some critics say they were proud, others say they caused a total liberation of the students. Students needs were met as the dining hall tables were all served, a situation which was not existing before they came into office.

Their handing over ceremony was even unique as the main Senior Prefect for the year 2004/05 was restrained from getting closer to the handing over grounds forcing him to stay in the house.

They were then motivated by the conditions on campus and aimed at bringing down the stumbling blocks and making them as stepping stones. The Ampong-led administration arguably could be described as the most spiritual administration of all times. They fasted for a week before the handing over ceremony and still fast every Friday of the week.

Choosing the best prefect from the 2005/06 batch will surely be a herculian task as each prefect distinguished himself as the best among equals. A mention must be made of Collins Amponsah, the sports prefect who is even tipped to be the prefect of the year. The protocol prefects were also extremely outstanding. The chaplaincy was awesome and the house prefects did a wonderful job in their houses. A revolution came up and all Amanfoo hope it persists. Could there be some similarities of the Ampong-led administration with the crop of prefects who will be elected in 2006 to man to school? Stephen Ampong, William Demitiah and Asamoah-Adu were the only three people who went in for the senior prefectship and as was expected none was disqualified since the position requires three people. Simliarly, this year also has three people going in for the position. These three automatically become senior prefects but the question is "who will be the main SP?"

This year also has three students going in for compound overseer so none gets beaten; the same for the chaplaincy and Dining hall prefects. This makes the BIG 8 a foregone conclusion.

The aspirants deliver their manifestos today followed by an elcetion tomorrow after the morning breakfast. Let us all see who takes the mantle from Ampong Stephen and leads the college to more laurels.

Good luck to all the aspirants from prempeh.org.
