Events keep on unfolding at the college with each passing day. Following the decision
of the prefects to step down some few weeks ago, there was so much tension on
campus.
Some of the masters did not understand the reason why the prefects did such a
thing and even some students wondered why the prefects could go to such an extent for
the sake of their grievances.
Ghana's collegiate website therefore made public the strife, atrocities and tension
that was prevalent on campus. The publication was followed by so many phone calls from old
boys and concerned people alike raising so much awareness on what goes on on
campus.
The wives of some of the masters received phone calls at the marketplace, that "their husbands were destroying Prempeh."
Mr. Atiemo's wife received several calls from the wives of other Amanfoo, who presented their husbands' grievances, with "Me kunu
se, wokunu eresei ne sukuu no (My husband says your husband is ruining our great school)."
Prof. Akosa came to the school with printouts of Prempeh.org articles in his hand
to condemn both the Headmaster and the Senior Housemaster. As his car approached the Administration, he phoned the headmaster
and asked him to meet him outside, which he did.
According to eye witnesses, Dr. Akosa uttered the following words, "We've been quite not becuase we have not noticed what you
are doing to our school; we will deal with you after the speech day."
As a result of that, the masters stirred up discipline on campus. The dining
hall was well attended by masters during breakfast, lunch not to even talk about
supper. Some students reported seeing "about 50 masters at the dining hall."
Prep was really monitored and there was no breathe left for the
students. According to one student, it "has become impossible to cough during prep time."
This caused nearly the whole student body to rush to internet cafes during the week of the Ashanti Milo
football competition. Every computer in the city was taken by a Prempeh kid, who was eager to find out the articles
that had shaken the basic foundation of the Royal School, especially after
Mr. Atiemo announce in the dining hall
that "prempeh.org has defamed me, don't believe what you read there."
There was a great awakening on campus but some masters still felt that
the prefects had done the greatest "sin' on earth and especially by letting the
cat out of the bag to prempeh.org.
Prefects have been vindicated
The headmaster of the college, Mr. Owusu-Achiaw had a very tough time understanding
this whole situation and has marvelled everyone especially the masters after
calling a meeting on Monday, January 2nd, and letting the masters know the problem and the solution to
the problems.
The headmaster's speech could be titled as, "change or you are
changed". The headmaster in a fashion that none of the masters has ever seen made
known his decision to the masters. He said, "following the recent impasse between
the prefects and the masters, I have come to know that the prefects are very
committed and have the school at heart. The Prefects were right. If you were as committed as
our prefects, Prempeh College will be better. Henceforth, any master who does not perform
his duties must either change or will be changed."
The headmaster then went to the
extent of mentioning the names of some masters at the meeting who are performing
poorly and are causing the school so much loss in the form of discipline and
sponsorship.
The masters were all quiet when the headmaster also said, he cannot now see the
difference between the chaplain and the headmaster since the chaplain now
functions like a headmaster. [More about this later].
He categorically praised the prefects for what they
have done and have still being doing for the school including the
website, "prempeh.org," since some revelations have been known now.
It is believed that the headmaster will enforce and put into practice all that he
said at the meeting.
