There was a meeting by the prefects
yesterday with the housemaster of Opoku Ware house, who was last year voted
the Ashanti Regional Best teacher.
The meeting which started around 8pm On Monday had
to end at 1.30am on Tuesday since the prefects were not getting the point of the former
regional best teacher and national Teacher of the Year runner-up.
Mr. Okyere Darko had the meeting with the prefects with
the aim of calming down tempers. He admonished the prefects to take back
their positions and let the administration know their grievances through the
right channel. The prefects however made it known one more time to the master
the rivalry or enmity that exists between the senior
housemaster and that of the headmaster. When the meeting ended around 1:30a.m and
all the prefects left.
Prefects have no confidence in the Headmaster
Today at morning assembly, the headmaster asked the prefects to take their
positions back and tell the whole school that they are sorry for what they
did since they did not take the right channel or approached this matter the
right way. As it is known in Ghana, "the old one is always right",
and so the Prefects had to accept this old, backward way of adjudicating cases.
the prefects all knelt down at the
assembly hall and apologised for what they did. This morning one of the prefects told
the webmaster that they complied not out of respect for the headmaster or fear of him but
because yesterday, Mr. Okyere Darko, was able to tell them something
reasonable.
With that the headmaster said that as their punishment, they would not be
given their badges for a week. This is very funny as the headmaster himself
refused to get new badges for the prefects when they came into
office. The prefects had to see a former senior prefect who advised them
on what to do before they had new badges. headmaster never gave the Prefects
any badges this year. The boys purchased their own badges, which the headmaster
feels compelled to take away for a week.
The situation on campus is now calm but what the school authorities should
not forget is that, since they have told the boys that they will listen to
their pleas and solve them in earnest, they should do just that.
Amanfoo all
over the world are watching them.
The prefects are now going about their normal duties with the hope that
their denouncement of their positions will send a note of caution to
everyone within the four walls of Prempeh College.
Prempeh.org informed Old Boys president Akosa over the phone and he is
on his way from Accra to take action on the campus on Wednesday.
