Prempeh in Disarray, Part III: Headmaster loses support of his Prefects
Monday, November 28, 2005
With the speech day fast approaching, so many things are unfolding at Sofoline.
One of the most bizarre things in the history of Prempeh College happened today.
Early in the morning
at Assembly, Senior Ampong Stephen, the Senior Prefect led all the prefects to hand
over their badges. This is because the Senior Prefect and the other prefects think
the headmaster and the staff are not helping the prefectorial body at all.
Some
members of staff disrespect the prefects and shout at them anyway. The headmaster is
not on talking terms with the senior housemaster and so their needs are not met.
Prefects have no confidence in the Headmaster
This
compelled the Prefects to hold a meeting yesterday after church service and today they all
vacated their positions and denounced their positions at assembly.
The
headmaster sensing the anger of the prefects then forcibly asked the senior prefect
to renounce their decision but he would not budge. This kept the whole schol at the
assembly grounds for a long time until the senior prefect told the headmaster and the
staff
that should they sit down unconcerned about the welfare of students, they will
"advise" themselves.
Gone were those days that prefects were respected at the college. The respect
accorded to prefects declined during the reign of the notorious Mr. SSS and the
prefects led by Ampong are determined to lift the image of the prefectorial
body.
The headmaster is in hot waters now as the speech day approaches with the
possibilty that the senior prefect will make known some of the atrocious deeds of
his administration.
The headmaster therefore called for an emergency staff meeting which kept the
masters in doors for about 6 hours, bringing classes to a halt today. There was no
classes today and the prefects as well as the students are bent on making sure
that their rights are not abused. Present on campus today, the webmaster saw some
students so annoyed and ready to fight back the Owusu-Achiaw administration tooth and
nail.
