WE ARE NOT INEFFECTIVE - PREFECTS

    Thursday, June 9, 2005

    The 2004/05 Prefects
The two Assistant Senior Prefects, both named Obeng, have stated emphatically that their regime is NOT ineffective as the headmaster says.

Seniors Obeng K and Nkrumah S.O. met with prempeh.org earlier this week to explain their side, saying that this regime has actually performed very well and that the Headmaster has done them injustice.

When we asked them why they do not attend morning services, they had an interesting answer. They said that since the strike began, the masters stopped coming for morning assembly. However, few hours after the service, masters from all corners of the campus show up at the administration block and start chatting, a trend which prempeh.org has even observed. So they decided to skip morning service, in an exercise that will show the masters what bad example they were setting for the prefects.

Thus they say their insolence here was staged in the interest of Mother Prempeh.

We advised the Prefects to find more diplomatic ways to resolve their conflict with the teaching staff.

Meanwhile the election campaign this year seems very difficult for the candidates because of the strike. Since there are no classes or lectures, classroom advertisements and campaigning has become nonexistent and impracticable. The only place the students gather these days is the dinning hall, and as we all know, school rules doesn't allow students to make noise in the dinning hall. Since it is unlikely for candidates to be permitted to campaign in the dining hall, the candidates these days campaign on a one-on-one basis; that means, when they ran into someone they tell the person of their aspirations and urge them to spread the word. It has become extremely difficult to campaign.

It is even difficult to find students at Prempeh. While some are playing basketball, others are on the school field, while some study in the classroom.

Last Friday, the letter vetting stage of the 2005/06 Prefectorial Selection and Elections was held. Boys aspiring to be Senior Prefects wrote a letter to Senior Prefect Konadu KK informing him of their intention to vie for the position.

Election campaigns was allowed to proceed as from Monday, June 6, 2005.

This website will cover every bit of the elections this year.
