PREPARATION FOR OPENING CEREMONY UNDERWAY
Thursday, September 1, 2005
A special Opening Ceremony of the first Annual Inter-Houses Science & Maths Quizes League
will be held in September to mark the launching of
this innovative program, which will have a far-reaching influence on our school.
The program, which will be broadcast on national television, will bring together several distinguished guests
to the campus of the Royal School in Kumasi.
We visited TV-3 studios early this morning to hire them to
broadcast the launching of the program at Sofoline for the national audience.
Contrary to what they expected, this "is not kids stuff." They praised us for
creating something that in a visionary fashion may set Prempeh on a great path for a long time.
They initiated the conversation by stating that they want to cover information that is newsworthy, but this program we
have set up is par-excellent, since no such inter-houses science & maths quizes league competition has ever been held in any school in
Ghana before.
Instead of taking the payment today,
they suggested we submit the official program listing the special guests and an invitation
letter together with the payment at a later date. Even though it is usually costly to have such a prestigious
television network telecast a program nationally, a strong list of prominent guests could compel them to reduce the fee for the client, since
such an accomplishment will be a coup for the television network.
They have therefore asked us to withold payment until we figure out with
our Headmaster which guest or guests are actually coming to grace the occasion, so that we could get a special discount
[All expenses are, of course, borne by this website].
But because the Headmaster is away in Sunyani attending to inter-regional sports festival, he has not yet set a date for the opening ceremony, though quiz question-writing has already began at Sofoline.
The Headmaster yesterday at a staff meeting aimed at introducing the webmaster to the teaching staff, asked all his staff to get involved
in the Quiz, even those teaching non-Science subjects.
The opening ceremony will be a great opportunity to officially introduce the nation's
first collegiate website to the whole country.
All the parents of the 54 quiz contestants (4 contestants, 2 reserves) from the 9 houses
will be invited to walk with their sons onto the stage as they are being introduced.
Besides speeches by prominent guests, there will be a quiz competition between
the 2004 Prempeh national quiz team and their
recently-departed 2005 counterparts.
Prempeh.org has already made plans to bring the
famous Asiamah from his village, and Kofi from his home in Tema.
One can only imagine what a battle
between Louis and
Asiamah would be like.
Besides the national television broadcast, the Pioneer newspaper is expected to publish it. We will also publish a weekly league table
in that paper. Furthermore, several sister schools, particularly our Yaa Asantewaa Girls, who rarely partake in Quizes at the national or local level, will be invited.
It is clearly obvious that prempeh.org is growing in boldness and penetration, and the humanitarian ideals and the high qualities of style, which we
proudly espouse, have brought the distant near, and have made strangers brothers, so that even among those who feel hatred and irreconcilable
enmity towards us, there is a silent appreciation of "a great work." But the talents we show here and the stunning success never seduce us into
an ostentation.
