National Science & Maths Quiz 2006
Prempeh beats OWASS in the year's first challenge
Tuesday, September 27, 2005
Prempeh College and OWASS today were taken by
storm when they went into a quiz hall hoping to face
St Louis and Konongo, but found
St Monica's Secondary
and Agogo Secondary coming into the contest instead.
The quiz
which was organised by the Ghana Science Association
in collaboration with the Cocoa Marketing Board was held
at the GARDEN CITY RADIO 92.1FM in Kumasi.
The quiz
which was transmitted live on air at 3pm saw all the
schools competing together for the first position. All
the contestants of the four schools were seated and
the questions went round.
The organisers did not
want the schools to be grouped into two and so they made it an
all-meet-all affair with no school gaining the
advantage of meeting a 'weaker" school and thereby
qualifying for the finals.
Prempeh College had the best
of everything on the day with Okyere Prince
Sebastian, Aning Daniel Gyawu and Aryeh Derrick Prince
doing battle for the Kings College after an intensive
training which was sponsored by the webmaster of
prempeh.org.
No wonder the Owarians continually praise
the webmaster for the support that he gives to the
college any time they are in need. At the end of the
contest, Prempeh College showed her superiority over
all the schools in Ashanti Region by scoring 28 points.
St Monica's, who has been seeking revenge for the breakup of the
Prempeh-Monicas alliance of old, did their best to beat us.
But the ladies we divorced in favour of the Royal Yaa Asantewaa Girls in the mid-1990s could only
tie with OWASS for 26
points, while Agogo Sec placed last with 15
points.
Prempeh College thus leave the Garden City to
Accra on the 1st of October for the nationals which
will be held on 2nd of October.
The contestants of the
school who wins the national final will have a treat from
the Vice President of Ghana.
Prempeh.org will surely
get a press accreditation and get you pictures of this
event. Amanfoo Legon will also be there to support the
college to victory as that has been the tradition.
This victory, however, should not be grounds for vainglory as it is too early in the academic
year. Besides, our contestants are fully aware that they could be displaced by some yet undiscovered heroes
from the Prempeh.org Inter-Houses Quizes League.
