Prempeh in national football final, again

Thursday, June 29, 2006

The soccer boys massacred Nalerigu Secondary today at Koforidua when they won the semi-final encounter by 4 goals to nil.

This was a national semi final which was to be played between Prempeh and Obuasi Sec Tech but the SecTechans were disqualified and sent home for fielding an unqualified player.

Charles Brenya, leads the golden boot race with four goals

Prempeh College went into the match against the replacement team Nalerigu with the needed determination since they consider every game to be the "final." Prempeh opened the scores through a goal from the deadly striker of our time, Charles Brenya.

People thought the injury suffered by Brenya was going to rule him out but after training with the team yesterday, Brenya declared his intention to wear the green jersey today.

Charles Brenya who now has 4 goals to his name and leading the goal king chart gave the young Amanfoo a two-goal lead in the first half.

Collins Amponsah who has also declared his ambition at winning the golden boot scored in the second half. The coach of the Prempeh team, Mr Lartey then substituted Charles Brenya and Ahmed Deedat so they could rest and prevent any injuries ahead of the final on Saturday.

Potsin AMASS of the Central Region also beat last year's runner-up Winneba Secondary by 2 goals to 1 today in another semi-final encounter. Prempeh thus meet Potsin AMASS in the final on Saturday at 1pm.

It may be recalled that Potsin AMASS is the team that eliminated Prempeh from the national football competition in 2004 when we hosted at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.

Prempeh will make history by becoming the first school to win it back-to-back if we overcome our opponents on Saturday.
