National Champions on Radio, Royal reception to follow
Wednesday, June 15, 2004.
The national organizer of the Old Boys Association accompanied Prempeh's famous
soccer team to OTEC FM in Kumasi this morning. The program is currently ongoing, and prempeh.org is right there at the
station, reporting.
At OTEC FM, our sports master, Mr. Lartey; Ahmed Amoako and the deputy sports, master Mr. Ofosuhene, together with the national organizer of the prestigious competition
are speaking now on OTEC's sports program, hosted by the one and only Prince, who is also an Amanfoo.
From the station, the champions will go on to the Manhyia Palace for a reception by the Ashanti King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The boys will present the trophy to the King, and will likely receive some words of advice from the King, who is the Patron of the College.
Prempeh captain Ahmed Amoako - National Milo Scoccer "Best Player" award winner, who has a very bright future. The band-aid
on his forehead depicts the blood he shed for the triumph
The Asantehene himself could be considered an oldboy of Prempeh: Headmaster A.D. Lewis accepted the young Kwaku Dua to form one and the future King enrolled at
Prempeh for a day before his uncle, Oheneba Mensah Bonsu, came to take him away to Sefwi Secondary, because of the large number of royals that were at Prempeh in those days.
The Nestle Milo national football competition is considered the most prestigious event
in school sports in Ghana. This is true not so much because of the pecuniary
clout of the sponsor and organizer, but above all, because soccer is the nation's number one sport.
It is extremely difficult to win this incredible honour in Milo soccer. And it brings
teams tremendous cash rewards and prestige.
Eight of our players have been selected to play in the Ghana national
team academy, which means that they could be playing in under-17 in the future. If they all qualify,
Prempeh could have nine players in the national soccer team.
