Prempeh wins Champions, 8 invited for national team academy

The Nestle Milo national football competition is considered the most prestigious event in collegiate sports in Ghana. This is true not so much because of the pecuniary clout of the sponsor and organizer, but above all, because soccer is the nation's number one sport.

Furthermore, it provides the gateway to the national under-17 soccer team, and a chance to play for one's country in the under-17 and under-20 World Cup soccer, as well as the Olympic Games.

National Player of the Year
Prempeh captain Ahmed Amoako - National Milo Scoccer "Best Player" award winner, who has a very bright future.

It is extremely difficult to win this incredible honour in Milo soccer. And it brings teams tremendous cash rewards and prestige.

Highlights of the game was shown on television on Monday night, and the whole city of Kumasi was screaming with joy; parents of Amanfoo called to inform each other to tune in to see the Royal School in action. It was such a great feeling to see this prestigious trophy make its way to Kumasi.

The over all best player of the tournament award went to Senior Ahmed of Prempeh College.

The trophy was presented to the school on Monday and the players were each given a sports bag, a carton of Milo and a gold medal.

Eight of our players have been selected to play in the Ghana national team academy, which means that they could be playing in under-17 in the future. If they all qualify, Prempeh could have nine players in the national soccer team.

Prempeh has done exceptionally well in soccer over the last few years. Chibsah led the national team to the Olympic Games in Greece.

Asante Kotoko players: Chibsah on extreme left and Edmund on the far right
Edmund Owusu-Ansah, midfield sensation of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, like Chibsah, is a key member of Ghana's under-23 soccer team, having won many caps from playing in the 2003 All-African Games and the 2004 Olympic games qualifiers. The duo played in the 8th All-African Games in October 2003 and won a medal.

Yussif's Chibsah's junior brother, Chibsah Faisal, captained Prempeh to last year's Ashanti milo championship glory and third-place in the VALCO national football competition last December.

Stay tuned for a profile of this victorious team.
