Koforidua -
Prempeh -- the repeat champions of the Inter-Schools and colleges Milo football competition of Ashanti Region
has done it again this afternoon at the Koforidua Sports Stadium by beating Winneba
Secondary, a former national Milo champion in the final of
the National Inter-Schools and Colleges Milo Soccer Championship.
2005 National Milo Soccer Champions.
Prempeh College went to the
final after beating New Juaben, the defending champions by one goal to nil in the semi-final.
The Prempeh boys entered the competition with all the determination in the world as they
wanted to prove a point to the world that they are superior not only in academics but also
in sports and more especially the nation's passion -- soccer.
At the blast of the whistle, each and everyone including the supporters who travelled from Kumasi
to Koforidua to support the boys were on tenterhooks as the two schools played a balanced
game with the Winnesec boys a little bit ahead of Prempeh College.
It turned out as no surprise
when after regulation time, the score was 1-1. Like the European champions league finals played a few days earlier,
the two teams were then asked to go for the
penalty shoot-out and Prempeh won; Winnesec missed one of the penalty shoot-outs, bringing the
final score to 8-7. Prempeh was then crowned the champions
of the prestigious National Inter-Schools and Colleges Milo Championship.
The Sofoline boys reached the campus of Prempeh College at exactly 19:10pm (GMT) amidst drumming and dancing.
The trophy will be presented to the headmaster on Monday at the morning assembly. Congratulations
to the boys for making us proud once again.
This is our first national championship since our famous debating team won the National Independence Debating competition
in Accra last year. This obviously ensures that Prempeh remains the only school in Ashanti to win national championship
each of the last few years, though we have failed to win national championship in table tennis and Science/Maths quizes -- our dual traditional masteries.
This victory is obviously a feather in the cap of our former trainer Coach Agyengo, now residing in the USA, who organized the
Agyengo Cup and devised the innovative inter-house soccer league at Sofoline
last year, and made the underclassmen of Sofoline battle each other in soccer for a period of nine weeks. That system is the only
intra-campus soccer league in the country. Congratulations to our sports master Mr. Lartery and our former coach Agyengo, for the dedication their invaluable support and dedication.
Stay tuned for profiles and pictures of this great football team.
