One need not be a member of this generation to appreciate the memories that this photo evoke.
1988 - Prempeh Boys and St. Monicas Girls at the Kumasi Sports Stadium after the final of the Ashanti Regional Super-Zonal Athletics Festival.
Interestingly, Prempeh College (AMANFOO) dumped St. Monicas girls in the mid-1990s and established a "true love affair" with the ladies of Yaa Asantewaa Girls School (ADESHIE) - the Royal girls' school.
The two schools established what is currently called AMANADESHIE. It has been described as a match made in heaven: Prempeh - The Kings College and Yaa Asantewaaa - The Queens College.
Not surprisingly, Opoku Ware Boys (AKATAKYIE) refused to allow this partnership to grow luxuriantly; they tried to establish AKATAADESHIE with Yaa Asantewaa, which never worked! When it failed, they went back to their St. Louis Girls, in the all-Catholic alliance.
Meanwhile, St. Monicas Girls is now paired with Adisadel in Cape Coast. Since Yaa Asantewaa Girls dumped Osei Tutu Boys (OBREMPONG) for Prempeh, Osei Tutu boys remain "womanless" in Kumasi.
