Amanfoo Sports Hall of Fame
Guggisberg House
Winfred "Sabotey" Sackey
Together with his brother Sabata, they brought all the hockey trophies to Prempeh during the late 70s and early 80s. Their style was just unique and they could clutch the hockey ball to their sticks as if there were magnets in their hockey sticks. Sabata was on the team that featured Owusu Yeboah. These guys were OWASS' worst nightmare. They were strong discus and shotput throwers. They also played a pivotal role in the school volleyball and soccer teams. These guys are a must for the
Prempeh Hall of Fame.
Ebo "Foolie" Arthur
We don't know which sport to assign to him because he featured in
every sporting activity. He featured for the school in table tennis, hockey,
volley, soccer, triple jump and on and on. Infact he could be described
as the "sportsman's sportsman." Amanfoo will however, remember
him most for his table tennis. Together with two other guys from G'berg
(Zigor and Demon) they dominated table tennis during our era and had interesting
matchups with Kojo Duodu and the Amass TT squad.
Robert "Zigor Sly" Fenning
One of our great table tennis players who represented the school in the late 70s and early 80s.
Isaac "Demon" Oppong
He was a member of the school table tennis squad, which also featured Foolie and Zigor Sly. A great table tennis player ws he.
Kwabena Boadu
A livewire of the 1985 football
team and Ashanti Regional representatives.
Yaw Boadu
Yaw and his housemate Kwabena Boadu were two of the most exciting soccer players in the Ashanti Region. It was during their time that G'berg House won the Inter-House Football
competitions for the upteenth time.
Seth Okoe "Debango"
Sowah
A superb shot putter who
made the 1985 interco athletics very memorable. Huge and intimidating,
this Dining Hall prefect always gave us something to feel excited about.
During his early days at G'berg, he paired with Sabotey and together they
kept rivals from other houses in fear by their unique skills.
Tommy de "Paa Tommy" Lawrence
He was one of the charismatic 800 runners in the early 60s.
"Abacious"
He is one of the best athletes Prempeh
has produced in the 19902. The guy took out the regional 200 metres
title, placed first in the Long Jump and 100 metres and held the National
Pole Vault title. He was also an integral part of 100m to 400m relay teams.
He was the Sports Prefect of 1995. The guy could play basketball as well.
John "Shanton" Attakora
He gave the magnifiient pass that led
to the 1985 Football championship vitory. He was also the goal king of
the tournament. Probably the greatest Prempeh footballer ever. He was not
only Captain of the Prempeh football team but also a key member of the
Kumasi Cornerstones Football Club, winners of the 1987 West African Football
Union (WAFU) Cup. Long live Shanton!!
Kwasi "Cee Wusu" Owusu
Who can forget his high-jumping? He will
make one jump on the field at the stadium and take a seat somewhere until another
jumper is able to equalize his jump. Only then will the Cee come back to
take the lead again.
