Guggisberg House Report 2002/03

Our predecessors handed the mantle of leadership to us. They did a marvelous work, but as nature demands that, everything that goes up will definitely come down. The curtain for the 2001 /2002 academic year had been drawn down making the 2002 /2003 academic year emerge.

Though it was easy steering the affairs of a house, which was already on top of everything, our able father, Mr. Samuel Godwyll and Mr. Asare Bediako served as solid rocks that we could rely on for help anytime the need arose. “More power to your elbows, masters”. With the motto ‘primus inter pares’ meaning “first among Equals” at the back of our minds we aimed at being first in all extra curricula activities and the academic sector as well.

To start with, I would like to make mention of the level of discipline of student in G’berg house. Students in the house never proved difficult and made sure they were present at all school gatherings. With their attendance to prep and response to the lights out bell, the lights in the various dormitories went out immediately and the dormitories quite as expected. No wonder the house was pronounced the most disciplined house by the senior housemaster. Because of our discipline the house recorded the highest number of prefects in the school. The names of the prefects are John Rachid Jimah (Assistant Senior School Prefect), Henry Nii Dodoo (Assistant Dining Hall Prefect), Michael Twum Barimah (Assistant Prep Prefect), Yaw Oppong Bawuah (Assistant Prep Prefect II), Amfo Yirenkye G.K. (Library Prefect), Amoateng Yaw Sraha (Sports Prefect).

In terms of academics, G’berg house is one of the best in the school. Our boys like Tutu Rockson, Michael Barimah and Adolphus Djanie just to mention a few have established themselves as academic giants in the school. In terms of sports, we continue to excel, without the presence of some prominent sportsmen. In the just ended sporting competitions, we performed extremely well by almost clearing everything in sight with the exception of football where we performed creditably. This and other performances have improved. With stars like Amoateng Sraha (Amito), Boafo Roger (Sir Roo) and Henry Dodoo, we had everything on a silver platter.

Unfortunately, a misfortune befell G’berg house after all these achievements. God being the giver and taker of everything took away the late Aboagye Emmanuel - the Assistant House Prefect. His services were missed very much because he was hard working and dedicated to the work of God. His absence was deeply felt but God being so good and knowing what is right for his children brought to light Master Foster Adjei to continue with the running of the house. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

As the saying goes, cleanliness is next to godliness, we made sure we kept the surroundings clean and also ensured that we planted flowers to make the house more beautiful. Once again, G’berg house was adjudged the neatest house among the nine houses in the school. To end it all, our sincere thanks goes to the external prefects and students whose immense help contributed to the attainment of our motto. Thanks be to God who has sustained the house and all its members. It’s our prayer that our successors will continue with the work done and even perform even better than we did.

2002/2003 House Prefect: Abukari Karim Sadiq
2002/2003 Asst. House Prefect: Adjei Foster

Long live G’berg house!
