National Debating Competition 2003/04
Prempeh wins National Debate Championship
March 3rd, 2004
The Kings College of Ghana today won the 2004 National Independence Debate Competition at the GNAT Hall in the nation's capital by beating Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, 204-198 points.
The subject of the interesting debate was, "that foreign films debase our cultural values and breed indiscipline in the society." President JA Kufuor, Class of '58 will present the award to the boys from his alma mater on Independence Day, March 6, 2004.
The Amanfoo in Legon who went to support our boys (40 in number) are now taking them to the University campus for jubilation before they leave for the Garden City. Today was a really marvellous day as the highly articulate Prempeh boys raised the Green and Gold flag of Asante and Prempeh very high on national television. William, the form one boy, was the supporting speaker for the Prempeh team and his command of "BUROFO" (English) was impeccable. We knew we would win after this incredible suppoting speaker had spoken. Gyeabour, the principal speaker told us he "had an inborn and an inward zeal to produce his best" when he saw the old boys from University of Ghana - Legon present. In his words he said, "these Legon old boys really came with action."
Our contestants were, from left in the photo: Papa Yaw Ohene Konadu (OW House), Gyeabour Kwasi Owusu (OT), Kharliq Abdul (Ramseyer),
William Demitiah (Ramseyer), who is a form one student.
Our legendary English teacher, Miss Otoo, who is in charge of the squad, and so many masters came. They knew they were coming to win.
The PRESECANS accepted defeat hands down, though we
heard someone say that we won because the Minister of Education is an old boy of Prempeh.
The Presec mistress also said they allowed us to beat them because they pitied us coming all the way from Kumasi.
But the nicest aspect of everything is that they clapped for us after we sang the college anthem.
Since all the boys want to see their faces on this website, we have to work on the pictures right away. But for now, JUBILATION on Legon campus. This is the year of the Amanfoo.
