National Debating Competition 2005/06
Prempeh faces OWASS in first round
Monday, November 14, 2005
Prempeh College, OWASS, Adentist Day School and Asanteman have drawn in the same group
in the Ashanti Inter-Schools debate which will determine the school that gets to
represents Ashanti in
the national debating competition.
Only the winner of this four member group will move on to the second round.
Beating OWASS in this round may actually serve as a good omen because the last time Prempeh eliminated them,
we went all the way to win the national championship for the first time. We eliminated them in the 2003/04 edition
and won the National Independence Debate competition in March 2004.
It may be recalled that Prempeh faced OWASS in about 7 competitions that year and beat them in everything except
athletics and basketball.
Besides the debating competition we won the
prestigious Ashanti Milo soccer title, which they could only place as semifinalist, and
beat them in the Ashanti Maths Quiz which they placed 4th. Furthermore, our brave science
contestants Richard, Dwobeng and Louis eliminated
them at the quarter-finals of the national Science & Maths Quiz competition and went on to become second runner-up.
This year (2005/06), Prempeh has already inflicted pain on the Owareans, having
exposed their weakness in the Sciences with a defeat in the
Ghana Science Association & Cocoa Marketing Board science quiz competition.
This is the year Prempeh is targeting three national trophies -- a quest that Prempeh.org
has named the Operation Tripple Crown. We want to win the national
Independence debating competition, the Milo national football championship and the national
Science & Maths Quiz championship.
No school in Kumasi is going to stand in our way.
