It was a dramatic morning as all the schools in the Ashanti Region made their place
at Opoku Ware Sec School to cheer their athletes on in the annual cross-country held
at the campus of OWASS.
The atmosphere was electrifying because all the schools were
chanting and making sure that their athletes were geared up for the teask ahead.
The
race started with more than 300 people competing for their respective
institutions. The commitment and the spirit of winning was so high that anyone who
made a little mistake was outrun by the other competitors. It got to a point where the
athlete of Kumasi Anglican was leading but was overtaken by a T.I. Ahmadiyya
student. The trend went on like that in a race remniscent of the 2005 Ghana Telecom
Premier League in which almost all the clubs moved to the top
position at some point until the last 5 matches put Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the top to end the
league.
Prempeh's athletes were up to the task. The spectators mostly OWASS students
praised their athletes till the end of the race. In the end, Prempeh's Prezegette
Joseph took the first position. Prempeh's number one cross country athlete Batule
took the 24th position as a result of an injury he incurred during the
race. Eric Nyarko came 37th and then Sabbath Edusei took the 44th position.
Prempeh thus had 110 points and took the third position with Tepa Secondary school
taking the first position and Kumasi Technical Institute being the 1st runners
up.
Notwithstanding, the boys are determined to surmount all obstacles and take the
Inter-colleges competition by storm next week Thursday and Friday.
