Is this really our Sofoline?

Monday, March 20, 2006

Are the masters of Sofoline thugs or teachers? Are the University College of Education-Winneba and the University of Cape Coast - the traditional teacher training universities - that bad?

Prempeh.org has uncovered some serious evidence that will soon cast doubt about the integrity of every teacher at Prempeh College and when this bombshell drops it will send shock-waves throughout the whole country.

16 year old Eric Goloe, Ramseyer House, representing Ghana in the World Youth Athletics in Morocco. Goloe is Ghana's fastest youth but he continually suffers on Prempeh campus from Mr. Atiemo's constant verbal abuse. Even the worst kind of gutter language and disdainful blue-collar expressions (such as aboa, kwasea, w'agyimi, wonni adwen?, wotiri awu?), which are only fit for the motor-park or lorry station are directed at him every day.

Last year, Ghana's fastest youth was taken from Ramseyer House and asked to go to Morocco to represent the country in the World Youth Athletics Championship. Prempeh's tireless sports master Mr. Lartey was asked to accompany him.

Goloe entered the competition in North Africa and kept qualifying from round to round. However, when he reached the semifinal stage and was about to continue his outstanding performance, Goloe was informed of rumours that had broken out back home that he did not make it past the first round. This shocking rumour enfeebled the 16-year old to the point that he could not control himself. How could people be so callous? He felt discouraged and lost in that round.

Prempeh.org has now found out some information that even Goloe does not know: at least one Prempeh master sent that ridiculous rumour to the radio stations just to make his own student fail.

Why are our current crop of teachers so barbaric? Do we need headmasters Osae and Sackey to come back from retirement to give them lessons in the art of mentoring children? Since Headmaster Owusu-Achiaw is the Vice-Chairman of Schools & Colleges Sports and his staff does not respect athletes, does it mean that his staff gives him no respect?

In fact, these teachers have not only betrayed Prempeh but they have also betrayed Ghana as a whole. For a medal that could have gone to the country never materialized.

Are these thugs or teachers?

In the past, not only were Prempeh masters regular visitors to watch Prempeh games and athletes, but the atypical teachers, such as the late Bannor Mensah of blessed memory, stood in the Prempeh student section and sang songs with us. Mathemastics master Bannor Mensah, also known as Changes, helped Prempeh students compose lyrics.

What do we have at Prempeh today? Thugs?

TO BE CONTINUED...(Until then, you may read this.)
