This year's Ashanti Super-Zonal track and field championships
was tipped to be very keen. However, the Prempeh boys were in for the
kill.
Goloe is seen here outrunning his competitor in Obuasi.
A motivational message from Mr. Asare Lartey quickened the
mortal bodies of the boys. With just some few points separating the first
three school on day one, the competition was to see the winner today.
Prempeh's Eric Goloe came first in the race that saw him finishing the same
time with Ahmed at some trials on campus.
The 100m race that gave Prempeh's 2004 Olympian Samuel
Adade of the class of 2002 instant fame when he won it
in 2000 was won by Goloe today.
Goloe also went on to win the 400m race.
In the Discuss, Samuel Ntumi came 2nd while Steve Koduah and M'anomaa
placed 5th and 8th respectively in the high
jump.
Collims Amponsah finishing the hurdles.
Prempeh disappointingly failed to qualify for the final of the
javelin thereby losing valuable points to their opponents.
However, Collins Amponsah, the toast of the Louis ladies who like gentlemen
came second in the long jump. It was really disheartening
when after the long jump, Collins was called upon to take the 110m hurdles
final with Ahmed, who also had a sprained ankle. Committed as they
are, they run but placed 5th and 6th respectively. The 15-minute rest period
that was to be given to Collins was denied him before the hurdles so he was very
tired while running.
Sabat who took part in the 4 x 400m final race was injured when the race
started so he dropped the baton and Prempeh came 5th in the race. Sabat was then
rushed to a nearby physiotherapy at a hospital in Obuasi for
treatment. Prempeh.org wishes him speedy recovery.
Our 4 x100 relay quartet: from left: Goloe, Collims Amponsah, John
Fokuo and Ahmed Amoako. Prempeh introduced a new style in Ghana
athletics by wearing 2 distinct but similar jerseys.
The quartet that won the 4 x 100m race again made Prempeh proud as they beat
all the schools at the stadium who thought the race was far from over for the
Prempeh boys since the 4 x 400m
had dispirited them. This last race was won by Prempeh to the admiration of
everybody including the school officials and authorities who won their bets.
At the end of tne Ashanti Regional Superzonal competition, Prempeh came
first with 112.5 points. TI AMASS achieved 69 points.
In the ladies competition, St Monica's came first followed by St Louis and
then Yaa Asantewaa. This was a time for some young Amanfoo to rekindle the
old "Amanmunche" spirit with the St. Monicas ladies.
