Prempeh College's dominance in sports continued today as new records were
set and hot races were won today at the Len Clay sports stadium in Obuasi
where the Inter-colleges competition is taking place.
Prempeh went into
today's competition knowing very well that it wasn't going to be easy as
schools like Kumasi Anglican, Tepa Secondary, Oppong Memorial, St. Hubert,
Princeo Of Peace, Jachie-Pramso Secondary and the beautiful ladies of Oduom
were all present at the stadium to show to the world the great talents they
possess.
It came as no surprise when the commentator of the day said that the
competition was going to be keenly contested. This he said beacuse schools
like Kofi Adjei and Tepa have always been a thorn in the flesh of Kings
College students as a result of their strength and stamina.
Though they consistently compete very well, they lose it in the end as a
result of the skill, knowledge and cerebral endowments that is also attached to the game which
Prempeh has more than they do.
Sports Prefect Collins and captain of the school
team, Ahmed Amoako holding our soccer league trophy. This duo do not only form a vital
part of the school football and volleybal teams, they are also 2 of our best athletes. Collins set a new Ashanti record in tripple jump.
The competition today started with the 200m heat which Prempeh's national athlete, Eric
Goloe, won so simply. He thus qualified for the final and made no mincemeat
of it as he won again.
Eric Goloe then went in for the 400m heat with Ahmed
Deedat Amoako. Goloe, who is the nation's number one and represented Ghana in the
youth championship in Morocco, took the first position as Ahmed also came 4th
as a result of an injury he picked when competing.
Even with that, Ahmed
Deedat came first in the 110m hurdles heat alongside Collins Amponsah and thus will
compete in the finals tomorrow. Collins proved to all and sundry that he
isn't only a good striker for the school soccer team but also a very good triple
jumper as he set a new boys' collegeiate record in the triple jump of 14.24m (national record is 17.23m
and world record is 18.29m) at the Len Clay sports
stadium.
The ladies and all the dignitaries could not hide their joy for this
young chap who is also the sports prefect of the Kings College.
That was not to end as Joseph Prezegette, the lastest sensation at Prempeh,
won the 1500m with the reigning cross-country record holder at Sofoline, Elijah Batule, the Assistant Sports Prefect,
taking the second
position. Prezegette then told prempeh.org that he wanted all to know that
winning the inter-schools cross country was no "fluke". The two boys have
promised that they are going to take the 5000m race by storm come tomorrow.
