Eric Goloe, Ghana's fastest youth, who holds the sprinting records, will lead
Prempeh to another championship glory in Obuasi
The long awaited inter-colleges athletic competitions will be held on the
16th and 17th of February this year.
As had been the tradition, the
competition is held in February each year at the Kumasi Sports Stadium, now
called the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
With the renovation taking place at the Baba
Yara sports stadium due to the impending CAN 2008 African Cup of Nations to
hosted by Ghana, however, the stadium is closed.
This therefore led the organisers to
choose another suitable place for the competition. Initially, some of the organisers
wanted the inter-co to be held at Prempeh College due to the excellent
facilities over there. Some had the view that, the KNUST stadium (Paa
Joe) would be the best place to have it.
When the sports masters and
the organisers had a meeting this week, they all came to a concensus that the
inter-co should be held at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi. When the news
reached the campus of Prempeh College, majority of the students
did not like it.
Some section of the students believe that travelling to
Obuasi is not ideal since they will lose a lot of strength after the journey
and thus cannot study. Others also believe that, should the school bus leave
without picking all the students, transportation back to campus will cost
them so much.
On the part of the prefects, some students will take that opportunity of the long distance
to misbehave since they will be far from Kumasi and would get back to school
late in the evening under the pretext of unavailabilty of transport.
In all these, they are determined to uphold the hallmark of discipline in the
school.
Prempeh.org entreat all students to go rally behind the athletes so that
Prempeh -- Ashanti's most successful sports program --
win the trophy for the upteenth time.
The staff and administration have also
promised to deal ruthlessly with any student who undermines the discipline
atmosphere that Prempeh is enjoying now.
