Prempeh's Eric Goloe, who represented Ghana at the just-ended World Youth Athletics Championship
held in Morrocco, actually excelled.
Eric Goloe
It was reported on the radio that "Eric failed to qualify past the first round and
couldn't even finish the race." Since it was a national radio news report, people found it very authentic
and started spreading the rumour that "the fastest youth has been a flop."
Little then did Ghanaians know that the 16-year old was in the semi-final of the event and was on the
verge of qualifying for the final.
Eric says he was shocked just before the semi-final race to find out that rumours had started in Ghana that
he had actually failed to move past the first round, and this confounded and depressed him so much that he
became discouraged.
Now that people know he actually did well, and could have done better, the question people are
asking is, "is there any professional journalism in Ghana?" Why would people go to such extent to ruin something
that could bring pride to the country?
Prempeh.org is happy that we had the foresight not to report this rumour when it first broke.
