prempeh.org: How did you feel when you were made the captain
of the team even though you are in form 2?
Ahmed: I was very happy but I said to myself that I wouldn't
be proud since pride would bring me down. The mantle was handed to me
by Apio because he is in Form three now and wants to lighten his burdens a bit.
prempeh.org: How was it adjusting to this new position?
Ahmed: My predecessor, Apio is really my senior.
He has been my senior in everything ever since I came to this school.
He was the captain of Fantomas FC before he graduated and left.
I took the mantle from him over there so when I was handed the mantle
agian over here, I knew what to do and what not to do from the experience I have gained.
prempeh.org: Are you going to further your education or move
ahead in soccer after completing school?
Ahmed: I have the desire to further my education to a certain
level before moving full time into sports because I believe strongly
that, football is my profession.
prempeh.org: You were adjudged the over all best player, how did you do it?
Ahmed: This is a very interesting question that no one has asked me
before but the secret is, I am a "utility player". I can play any position
on the field. When I was in forom one, I was a defender when Prempeh
played the INVISIBLE FM GALA. I was then shifted to central midfield.
In fact, I have played the 6, 7, 8 position all before in the Prempeh team.
When we started the MILO championship, I spearheaded the attack with Apio.
In the final, one of our defenders was out so I played the 4 position.
I know I defended so well so they had to give me that award because not
all players can do that splendid and heart-breaking assignment on the field.
prempeh.org: How was the feeling like when you were chosen as
the National Best Player?
Ahmed: Being chosen as the overall best player in Ghana,
your guess is as good as mine. I didn't know what to do, Sir.
prempeh.org: How did you make it in the final?
Ahmed: We listened to the coach.
He always tells us that, "look forward any time
you are with the ball." We did that and we realised
that everything was going on well for us.
The teamwork was strong. Stronger than I had
anticipated because, the WINNESEC guys had
promised fire and brimstone. They were in to
destroy us and we wanted to prevent that. They are
very good at scoring goals so we had to close our
net and find means of opening theirs. They had
some players who play for FEYENOORD in the premier
league so I told our coach to alert the
defenders and that paid off really well.
Discipline and hard work won the day.
prempeh.org: You are going to be the captain for the next
academic calender, are you certain that you can defend the trophy?
Ahmed: With the same discipline, hard work and team work spirit,
we can make it. Since the form threes are leaving, we have recruited
some form one and twos from the just ended inter-houses gala.
We shall train together and I know come next year,
the trophy will be retained.
prempeh.org: What is your message for all AMANFOO?
Ahmed: They should come and support the boys
because there are so many talents in us. We thank them
so much for the help they showed before the tournament
and we want to see them helping again as we appeal for funds
towards the AWARDS night.
