PREMPEH IS THE SCHOOL MOST GHANAIANS CHOSE
Monday, September 13, 2004
Newspaper reviews on radio stations on Friday showed that Prempeh recorded the highest
number of first year applicants and the competition for entry into the Royal School is
the most brutal in the nation. A record 2400 students chose Prempeh, of which 2000
had a strong Aggregate 6. The Headmaster is required by a national mandate to
accept only 500 students, including those accepted by virtue of protocol.
Kapital Radio was the first to report on the competitiveness of Prempeh's admissions this year. The Pioneer
newspaper wrote about our Headmaster's dilemma in making the selection for the best 500 out of this notable list of 2400 strong contenders.
The paper joked about how Headmaster Owusu-Achiaw directed all applicants without eight or nine "ones" to "go and seek admission into Dompoase Secondary School," which, interestingly, was the school
he last headed before becoming Prempeh's ninth headmaster.
The Kumasi Daily and The Pioneer suggested that the competition is so
intense and the spaces are so few that even His Majesty The King may be restricted to only 5 places for
royals this year.
While it is clearly obvious that the Kings College is the most prestigious institution for
boys because our distinguished President, His Excellency Senior JA Kufuor is an alumnus, some
people actually credit prempeh.org for giving the Royal School the upper hand over its rivals
and contributing to the ascendancy
of Prempeh's already-famous name. This is probably why the headmaster is requesting that all his staff submit
their profiles to the website by a specified date.
