October 10, 2004: Saturday Chronicle: what we did this weekend.

Yesterday, Saturday October 9, 2004, was a special day at Sofoline, not because of the jollof served at supper, but also because it was "Fresher's Night" at Entertainment -- a night the Form 1 boys entertained themselves. This also marked the beginning of a new era: a new Senior Housemaster who is embarking on revival of roll-call -- a tradition long cherished which has lost its sheen in recent times.

We used the website camera to chronicle the Saturday activities at a Royal School.

Jollof rice at the dining hall at supper, just after roll call.

These form one boys were asked to stand on the chair as punishment for not bringing the requisite dining cutlery, which gives visible proof that Prempeh boys are highly well-trained.

Roll call is taking place at the Administration Block. Unlike the old days when roll call was held in House Common Rooms by the House Prefects, the tradition is now carried out at the Administration block because some corrupt House Prefects used to cover some students who bribed them with sardines and other gifts. Since our Golden Jubilee year when former headmaster Sekyere came out with this policy, it has been enforced since.

Housemasters supervise the inter-House roll call at the Administration block.

Our new Senior Housemaster, Mr. Atiemo (left), the son of our former headmaster, who was raised here on this campus and attended our great College, was present to enforce the rules that have been enforced fron generation to generation. Serwah Housemaster, Mr. Jack Kennedy Brobbey is on the right. Both of these gentleman are previous winners of Ashanti Best Teacher award, the latter being a more recent winner (2003).

Prempeh boys: typically handosme, well trained, and brainy.

As we can see, the form one boys are not dressed in white-white with school ties. Even their khaki is not of the Prempeh-type because their clothes have not been made yet. Their uniforms, including the green shirts, will be available in 3 weeks time.

During the afternoon, some students were seen playing the game of ludo

...and some were playing "dame."

Early in the morning, we took our camera to the dorms to see the students just after inspection.

Long live the Kings College!!!
