September 5, 2004: The Monarchs and their School.

The great Prempeh II (reigned 1931-1970) searching for a land for his school in the olden days.

Reopening Day Press Conference on Februay 8 1949. The King sits at the high table (on the right) with representatives of the colonial government. The Pioneer newspaper was present and published the classic front-page headline "A New School opens for Asante."

November 6th, 1966: Speech Day -- Asantehene Sir Osei Agyemang Prempeh II gets ready to inspect the guard of honour by the cadet corps.

Speech Day 1971: The R.S.M. Seidu Busanga inviting the Asantehene, Otumfoo Opoku Ware II (reigned 1970-1999), to inspect the cadets on parade. King Opoku Ware II never missed a Speech day at Prempeh; he was always present to hear the headmaster's account of his stewardship at the Royal School, though he never addressed the students himself. When Prempeh II found a land (Sofoline) for Rev. pearson to build the Royal School, it was the then heir-apparent Opoku Ware II (then Mathew Opoku), who levelled the vegetation on the nerve-racking site of the future school. Then a surveyor by profession, he prepared the land for the architects.

The current King Osei Tutu II brought the Royal School to the Palace upon his ascension to the throne in 1999. Standing on the left in a suite is the then Headmaster EA Sekyere, with Mr. Ankamah (C'est Kemba) the French master (in white shirt and tie) behind him. Other Prempeh masters as well as Amanfoo were present, including the Akyempemhene Nana Poku (a former Assistant Senior Prefect from OT House) on the far right. When the Asantehene (Nana Osei Tutu II) came to Prempeh form 1, his uncle, the then-Hiahene of Asante, Nana Mensah Bonsu, was troubled by the vast number of royals from other Ghanaian states in the school. He therefore rushed to transfer the little Kwaku Duah to the far-away Sefwhi-Yiawso Secondary School in order not to have him influenced by the many royals in the school at that time.

His Majesty is simply captivated by Prempeh's outstanding contribution to the world as he opens Prempeh's Heroes Corner in December 2001.

Here the King is having a chat with His Excellency President JA Kufuor outside the Osae Assembly Hall on their visit in 2001. Just like his predecessors, this King is also very fond of the school. He even brings his elegance to Prempeh College Reading Club book reading events. Not only has he doled out significant amount of money to the school, and thereby continuing the endless procession kicked off by King Prempeh II, he is also building landmarks. His construction of residence facilities (bungalows) for Prempeh teaching staff are due to start soon.
