Though the Vice-President was invited, the college authorities had their doubts as the election was drawing nearer and nearer and campaigning was very intense. As a result of the election, the usual December speech day was shifted to November.

Another invited guest who failed to turn up was the U.S Ambassador to Ghana, Mrs. Carlin Yates. She was also represented by a member of the diplomatic corps.

Among the dignitaries present was Prof. Akosa, who spoke on the theme: "Prempeh College: a heritage worth preserving."
