The Prempeh College cadet corps, founded in 1954 was celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2004. This ceremony took place at the Prempeh Stadium
on Saturday, June 19, 2004.
These ladies from Kumasi Girls High were outstanding. Were they the crowd's favourite? Look at the "abasa."
Excellent! Excellent!! Excellent!!!
Outstanding show. Prempeh cadets have a rich history. Presdident JA Kufuor was a member of the pioneer cadet group of 1954.
Furthermore, Abu Ibrahim, the first Cadet Prefect (1990), is also the first and the only cadet boy in Ghana to
command the national Independence Day Anniversary parade at the Kumasi Sports Stadium from 1986 and 1989.
To honor him, Headmaster Sackey created the Cadet Prefectship post and made him the pioneer Cadet Prefect.
Led by Cadet Prefect Samuel Okrah, Prempeh cadet corps remain the only elitist cadet corps in Ashanti. They are the oldest, most disciplined, and most respected cadet corps in the region.
Brigadier George Ayiku, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, who was the Special Guest, commended the Prempeh College cadet corps for exhibiting a high sense of discipline over the years which he noted had distinguished them as one of the most discipline cadet corps in the country.
What an excellent display by the cadets. About 30 students passed out of
the cadets that day. Because of the large number of people that
particpated in the parade (i.e., many cadet groups), the event had
to be held at the Prempeh sports arena - what we call "The School Field."
There were other female cadet corps there too, besides Kumasi Girls. There were also the
Prempeh-trained Yaa Asantewaa Girls cadets.
