Appeal for Special Donations
Addressed to: DISTINGUISHED AMANFOO ABROAD
Dear DISTINGUISHED AMANFOO,
1999 GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION: APPEAL FOR SPECIAL DONATIONS
We bring you fraternal greetings, and seize this opportunity to remind you that our dear School, Prempeh College, will be 50 in February 1999.
She has now reached the threshold of her Golden Age, standing tall--indeed very tall--among those claiming to be her equals, and dwarfing those aspiring to attain that height.
To commemorate this historic occasion, various anniversary activities including a special jubilee package are envisaged. The organizational responsibility has been entrusted to a Golden Jubilee Planning Committee
which is working in conjunction with the National Executive of The Old Boys' Association. From our observation, it is gratifying to note that, in our numbers, Amanfoo are very much in favour of celebrating the 1999 Golden Jubilee
in a befitting grand style. Such a consensus stems from one undeniable fact. In the fifty years of her existence, Prempeh College has mothered, cuddled and nurtured many a son into attaining enviable positions of
responsibility, some in government and in the military, others in civil society and in corporate life. All these sons, either by dint of professional excellence or by some singular achievement are highly deserving of the accolade "DISTINGUISHED AMANFOO."
Senior, the purpose of this memorandum is two-fold. Firstly, it is to proudly confer on you the honour of DISTINGUISHED AMANFOO. In this regard, please accept our most heartfelt congratulations. Secondly, it is to invite you to pay a minimum levy and, possibly, make a special donation that would enable us to attain the objectives for the
jubilee package which comprises an Endowment Fund and a Jubilee House.
1. AMANFOO ENDOWMENT FUND
This is a 100-million Cedi fund intended as a birthday gift. Interest accruing from the fund would constitute a sustainable source of internal income generation for the school's development. With regard to the source of the funding, the Committe is pleased to indicate that we do already have an investment of about 50 million with Merban Investment Holdings Ltd., a subsidiary of Merchant Bank (Ghana) Ltd.
This level of investment has come about by way of proceeds from fund-raising exercise carried out in 1989. The thrust of our effort is therefore to raise additional 50 million cedis to beef up the existing amount to 100 million. In our estimation, if every Amanfoo abroad should pay a minimum levy of US$300, or 150 pounds sterling, we should have no problem at all in achieving or exceeding our target of 100 million cedis as Endowment Fund for
our School.
2. GOLDEN JUBILEE HOUSE PROJECT
The project involves the construction of a dormitory block. With a capacity of 160-200 students, the proposed Jubilee House--to be called Opoku Ware House--is intended to provide the school with the much needed additional dormitory accomodation, as well as a refreshing structural innovation on the campus. The sod-cutting ceremony was performed on the 30th of May 1998 as part of activities marking the official launching of the Golden Jubilee Celebration.
The project is estimated to to cost 1 billion cedis and its implementation is forecast to last about two years. Special donations are therefore expected from all Amanfoo worldwide to ensure timely and full completion. You will find attached the preliminary design of the front view.
3. GOLDEN JUBILEE HALL OF FAME
With regard to the special donations, we would like to inform all AMANFOO that a JUBILEE HALL OF FAME has been instituted to honor donors as follows:
GOLD PLAQUE: $5,000; SILVER PLAQUE: $2,500; and BRONZE PLAQUE: $1,000.
4. GOLDEN JUBILEE ACCOUNT
Given the love we know you have you have for Prempeh College, it is our hope that you will readily and willingly pay your general levy towards the Amanfoo Endowment Fund and offer a special donation to support the Golden Jubilee House Project. Payments c |
