its 50th anniversary on Saturday, June 19, 2004. Click here for more.
Just before his death at age 87 in January 2003, Rev. Sidney Nesbitt Pearson (Prempeh's First Headmaster, 1949-53)
gave an interview with the College's
website and bequeathed some rare photos from his archives for the website
a few days before his death. He derived great joy from following the achievements
of the Old Boys through this website.
When Headmaster Owusu-Achiaw attended his funeral in Scotland, The Pearsons graciously presented the Headmaster with Rev. Pearson's preaching gown and hood, possibly ones he wore when at Prempeh, to be a gift to Prempeh College for the school to keep as a memento of the first Headmaster.
Prempeh College received a 50-seater bus that costs 475,000,000 cedis. This was in respect of the President J.A. Kufour's pledge to give the alma mater
a new bus. The Daily Graphic gave the nation a look at Prempeh's new bus on its front page and in color.
There is now a magnificient wall around the school. When the gates are locked, no one goes in!
There is another gate at Serwah House entrance called "The East Gate," which has a designated security guard at its entrance. This East
Gate was commissioned in December 2003 by the Akyempemhene. The school gates, especially the one at the Sofoline/Kwadaso entrance is designed in the shape of a stool.
There is wall around the whole Prempeh territory.
There are now many busts of Amanfoo luminaries all over campus: images of King Prempeh II, Rev.
Pearson, King Opoku Ware II, and many others.
Then there is The Heroes Corner.
This corner displays names of our founding fathers and some distinguished Amanfoo inscribed on it. All visitors to the school stop by it.
The inscription says "Our Honor Roll of the Amanfoo of the First Decade (1949-1959) of The College......... Unveiled by His Excellency Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor, President of the Republic of Ghana, at the 52nd Speech & Prize-Giving Day."

A new Science Block was recently opened; this is where all science lectures are held. It was commissioned by His Excellency, President J.A. Kufuor, Class of '57/58, when he
visited the College in December 2001 with the Asantehene. The King unveiled the bust of President Kufuor on campus and commissioned the Heroes Corner of Prempeh College, while the President commissioned the Science Block.
A new Dining Hall Annex recently opened. The D-Hall was extended to accomodate members of the new Opoku Ware II House and the ever increasing population of the school.
In the area between Freeman house and the school tower is situated the Rev. R.P. Nyarko Square. Reverend Rudolph P. Nyarko (1921-2001) was our great, revered Chaplain of the 1960s and 70s.
Prempeh College, which is always the first to invent anything in Ghana, developed an idea in December which is expected to be
replicated all over the nation. At least Opoku Ware School will emulate and implement it next year. Prempeh held a graduation ceremony for the June 2003 graduating class as part of the December Speech &
Prizegiving Day. The 54th Speech & Prizegiving and Graduation Ceremony was held on December 6; 700 students graduated. This was the first
such graduation ceremony at the secondary school level in Ghana. Special graduation gowns were worn by the graduates on that day.
The Senior Prefect of the day, Gyabaah Victor, addressed the graduates as follows: "Young graduates, respectable batch of 2003, I deem it more
than just an honour to call you Amanfoo and the first to be graduated. You are
now making a step into another stage of life. This is where you need to understand that life is how you make it and not where you are coming
from. It is full of choices and what you choose at this stage can affect your future status. You have received your results, whether good or
bad, do not get discouraged. Stay focused for that serves as the womb to
accomplishment. You are pregnant with a vision and be determined so that you can deliver prosperity. Be good ambassadors of the Kings College
and I know and believe that God will crown all your efforts with success."
The Kings College has brought in a sports coach. Mr. Agyeman Duah is the man. The 34-year old is a product of St. James Seminary in the Brong Ahafo region. After completing St. James in Sunyani, he entered into one of the training colleges in the country and later found himself at The University College of Education Winneba (UCEW) where he read a course in Physical Education.
Under the leadership of this new coach, the athletes have gained keeen interest in sports and are thus ready to die for the college. He said "I am so confident that I don't do things and fail and from all indications, this year is our year." His dedication, commitment, tenacity of purpose and respect for the students and authorities alike has earned him the nickie, "AGYENGO."
Culminating with his arrival, Prempeh has lifted the Milo Soccer Competition trophy for the first time since its inception.
Agyengo has introduced a new Prempeh Soccer League, in which the nine houses play each other over a nine week period. This is obviously an innovative inter-house program which is the first of its kind in the country and which will go a long way into advancing Prempeh's sports program.
